2009 European Year of creativity
Now we know that the European Commission has today adopted a proposal to declare 2009 the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. However, the decision will be taken later this year by the European Council and the European Parliament.
Before going on we want to ensure the full understatement of what we said before. That is why we are going to talk about: The European Commission, the European Council and the European Parliament.
The European Commission,
The European Commission represents and maintains the general interest of the Union and is the responsible of the Union’s institutional system. It is formed by ministers, each of them representing different countries.
The European Parliament, however,is the only directly-elected body of the European Union. The 785 Members of the European Parliament are there to represent the citizen. They are elected once every five years by voters right across the 27 Member States of the European Union on behalf of its 492 million citizens.
Finally, the Council of Europe was founded in 1949 and seeks to develop throughout Europe common and democratic principles based on the European Convention on Human Rights and other reference texts on the protection of individuals.
